Barrette picks (or hair picks with holders), like our Yleval or Maëlle models, are accessories that are both functional and poetic. Composed of a fixed decorative part and a through pick, they hold hair in place while adding a touch of fantasy to your everyday hairstyle. Whether your hair is long, medium-length, straight or curly, there's always a way to wear it!
From the simplest hairstyle to the most sophisticated, here's a little guide and a few ideas on how to use them ✨
What is a barrette-pic?
It's a piece of hair jewelry made up of two parts: a fixed part that rests against the hair, and a detachable pick (which can also be used on its own, if you wish) that passes through the hair strands and the holes provided to hold it all together.
This type of hair clip is ideal for :
- Creating an elegant ponytail or half-tail
- Adorn the back of a hairstyle on which you've linked two side locks or two small braids together
- Adorn the top of a braid
- Maintain an unstructured bun
- Embellishing the front of a high bun
How do I use a hair clip?
The simplest technique is to use the barrette-pic to create a ponytail or half-tail, but it's also possible to opt for more fanciful hairstyles: simple braids in the center, side braids that meet at the back of the head... The ideas are endless!
Please note: depending on your hair type and thickness, you may need to use an elastic band to hold your ponytail in place. Don't panic, the barrette-pic will be there to hide it!
First, brush your hair and prepare your hairstyle. Depending on the complexity of your hairstyle (braids, etc.), you'll need to do this beforehand, as the barrette-pick will provide the finishing touch. If you're styling alone, place the pick in the first hole to avoid having to aim.
Then place the decorative part of the clip against your hairstyle, where you want to hold your hair. Using the pick, thread your hair from one end of the decorative part to the other, like a needle through fabric, and out through the hole on the other side of the clip. The pick should hook a sufficiently thick quantity of hair for the whole to hold well... But not too much either, so that you can reach the other side. If you can't reach the other side of the clip, try to free a few strands so that the clip traps less hair.
How do I know if I've caught enough hair? The pick should give off a little resistance when you slide it. If it slides too freely, try again, trapping more hair, as you risk losing it. The hold should be firm, but comfortable.
Then adjust it to fit your hairstyle and... voilà!
How to use
- Lightly textured or wavy hair holds up better than freshly washed, very straight hair.
- If your hair is very fine, make a small twist to create volume to hold, or use an elastic band as a base.
- If your hair is very thick, long picks and wide supports are more suitable.
